Road running shoes
Running shoes built for asphalt and hard surfaces — daily trainers, max cushion, tempo and race models — compared on weight, drop and stack.
Low drop shoes (≤ 5 mm)
Shoes with a heel-to-toe drop of 5 mm or less, which load the calves and Achilles more.
Zero drop running shoes
Heel and forefoot at the same height (0 mm drop) for a more natural stride. More demanding on calves and Achilles tendons: switch gradually.
High drop shoes (≥ 10 mm)
Shoes with a drop of 10 mm or more, often preferred by heel strikers and runners with sensitive calves.
Lightweight shoes (≤ 230 g)
Shoes weighing 230 g or less in the reference size.
High stack shoes (≥ 40 mm)
Shoes with 40 mm or more of material under the heel.
Carbon plated shoes
Shoes with a carbon-fibre plate or rods embedded in the midsole.
